(Baonghean)Chosen as a new rural construction site in Quy Hop district, however, the irrigation water source of Chau Quang commune is heavily polluted...

According to the people of Diem Bay hamlet, Chau Quang commune, the yield in the fields here has been ineffective for a long time due to polluted irrigation water. In the same field, the rice plants in the land adjacent to the water source are stunted, while the land far from the water source grows normally. Checking at the foot of the field along the ditch, the rice plants only grow about 15 - 20 cm, do not produce panicles, if they do, the grains are flat. In the land far from the ditch, the rice plants grow well, the grains are evenly sown.

Hua Nam river water is full of red mud.

Through discussion, Chairman of Chau Quang Commune People's Committee, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Luyen said that 3/4 of the commune's irrigation water sources are currently heavily polluted. Hua Nam stream (source of Nam Ton river) and Tong Huong dam are both polluted due to the impact of tin mining in Chau Hong, Chau Tien, Lien Hop, Chau Cuong, Chau Thanh communes and production in Chau Quang small industrial park. Together with Mr. Luu Xuan Diem - Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture of Quy Hop district, Vo Xuan Thanh - Vice Chairman of Chau Quang Commune People's Committee, observing Hua Nam stream (section through Chau Quang small industrial park), we see the river water is thick with red mud.

Mr. Luu Xuan Diem exclaimed: "The river water is so red that even cows and buffaloes dare not drink it, let alone people." According to Mr. Vo Xuan Thanh, before the enterprises started exploiting minerals, the water of Hua Nam stream was crystal clear, providing irrigation water for the fields and domestic water for the people of Chau Quang commune.

It is known that Chau Quang residents have repeatedly reported the issue of polluted water sources at commune and district People's Council meetings. At the same time, the commune government has also reported to the district People's Committee many times, but it has not been completely resolved. Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Luyen said: "We have determined that it is difficult to completely overcome the pollution of irrigation water sources for Chau Quang. Therefore, the commune recently submitted a document to the district People's Committee, requesting annual funding to support environmental remediation so that the commune has more funds to dredge canals, because after just one flood, the canals are all silted up."
