Identifying the opponents of the Vietnamese team in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers
(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of July 27, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) conducted the draw to divide the groups for the teams participating in the first and second qualifying rounds of the 2026 World Cup in Asia. The Vietnamese team also confirmed its opponents in the upcoming qualifying round.
According to the draw results, the Vietnamese team is in the second seed group and is in the same group with Iraq, the Philippines and the winner of match 8 of the first qualifying round (Indonesia or Brunei).
According to the 2023 schedule, the Vietnamese team will have two matches in November. The first match is an away match against the Philippines on November 16 and the second match is a home match against Iraq on November 21.
To prepare for the second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup in Asia and the 2027 Asian Cup, the Vietnamese team will have meetings and friendly matches during FIFA days in September and October.
Especially during FIFA days in October - the time close to the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers, the Vietnam Football Federation has planned for the team to train in Korea and will have a very high-quality match with the Korean National Team, currently ranked 28th in the world on the FIFA rankings.
