On the afternoon of April 11, at the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang answered questions about Vietnam's reaction to some recent activities in the Gulf of Tonkin.
When asked about the information that China's Dong Phuong 13-2 drilling rig had entered the Gulf of Tonkin, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang said that Vietnamese authorities are verifying this information.
Ms. Hang also reiterated that the Agreement on the Delimitation of the Gulf of Tonkin clearly defines the scope and legal regime of the exclusive economic zone and continental shelf of each country in the Gulf of Tonkin in accordance with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
Accordingly, the two countries have the responsibility to strictly comply with the provisions of the Agreement in managing, exploiting and protecting resources in their exclusive economic zones and continental shelves, for the benefit of each country and for peace and stability in the East Sea region.
