Express reported that the "sea monster" body was accidentally discovered by a group of walkers on the shore of Hollingworth Lake, in the town of Rochdale, Greater Manchester on August 3. One of the people who discovered the body claimed that they could fit their wrist inside the monster's head.

"I was walking with Suzanne when I saw it. I thought it was a crocodile or some ancient creature so I immediately took a picture of it," said Jonny Beckett, a 32-year-old salesman.

"The monster was huge, it was 1.5 meters long. A group of kids nearby saw me taking pictures, they looked very scared."

Myron Szymanskyj also shared a photo of the strange animal. He said: "I stared at the body for a while and then turned it over. The body was decomposing and smelled rotten."

Images of the "sea monster" quickly spread on British websites with many mixed opinions. Many people called it the "Roch Ness monster", referring to another version of the Loch Ness monster, more than 640 km away.

Others believe it is simply the carcass of a pike, a freshwater fish with sharp teeth that lives in the rivers and lakes of North America and Europe. They can reach a length of 1.2 m.

Lake Hollingworth, with an area of about 5 square kilometers, also often appears this fish. However, the strange corpse has frightened many tourists who often come to visit the lake.

"It's horrible. I won't be boating on the lake again, that's for sure," said local resident Carole Ann Gleeson.

"Even if it's a pike, it looks dangerous. I don't know if it's the only one or if there are more in the lake, or if it's an ancient species," Emma Lorraine Mitchell expressed her concern.
