Biofuel in the world: Some countries have used E85
In Vietnam, E5 gasoline will be widely used from January 1, 2018. In many countries around the world, the popular gasoline used is E10, some countries have tested E85.
While Vietnamese consumers are still considering using E5 biofuel when this type of gasoline will completely replace A92 gasoline from January 1, 2018, many countries in the world are now using E10 gasoline very popularly and some countries are even testing the sale of E85 gasoline.
E10 is the common standard in many countries.
According to ePure data, E10 biofuel is currently widely used in developed countries such as the US, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Belgium, Finland, France... Notably, the market share of E10 gasoline in Finland in 2016 was up to 63%, in France this figure was also at 32%.
According to the US Energy Information Administration, 95% of gasoline consumed in the US is blended with at least 10% ethanol (E10 gasoline).
Meanwhile, in 2017, E5 biofuel only accounted for about 6% of gasoline consumption in Vietnam.

According to the Biofuels Digest website, within the framework of the Renewable Energy Directive (RED), Europe aims to bring renewable energy to at least 20% of total consumption by 2020.
China aims to have biofuel account for at least 10% of total consumption by 2020. Currently, nine Chinese provinces require 10% of total consumption to be biofuel, including Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Anhui and Henan.
India, the world’s second most populous country, began selling E10 biofuel last year. Demand for the fuel is expected to double to 2.3 billion liters from current levels of E5. The country aims to have biofuel account for 20 percent of total consumption by 2017.

The European Union EU is hoping that 100% of its member countries will use E10 gasoline and then E20 because of the advantages of this type of gasoline such as being environmentally friendly, cheaper than regular mineral gasoline and fuel consumption is measured to be equal.
According to a report by Grand View Research, many countries that consume large amounts of gasoline have replaced regular gasoline with ethanol-blended gasoline, typically China and Mexico have popularized E10 gasoline by law. The entire world biofuel market was estimated to be worth about 64.52 billion USD in 2016.
As of 2016, North America remains the world's largest consumer of ethanol-blended gasoline, accounting for 59.4% of global biofuel consumption.
The organization predicts that governments' increasing priority on sustainable development will see the market share of biofuels expand, especially in the Asia-Pacific region.
Many countries are testing the sale of E85 gasoline.
According to ePure, gasoline containing up to 85% ethanol is being sold in many European countries such as Sweden, France, Germany or less commonly in Hungary, Austria, the Netherlands or Spain.

According to the organization, E85 gasoline not only reduces greenhouse gas emissions, has a higher octane content for better engine performance, but also minimizes engine overheating. Ethanol also produces fewer byproducts when burned than regular mineral gasoline.
However, the popularity of E85 gasoline is limited because this type of gasoline requires a standard FFV engine to operate. This type of engine is not really popular, even in developed countries.
According to the US Energy Information Administration, only about 16.3 million cars operating in the US are FFV standard vehicles, equivalent to 7% of the cars in this country.
The most potential market for E85 gasoline is currently Brazil, as this country has introduced FFV standards for car manufacturers since 2003 and currently the rate of cars with FFV standards in Brazil has reached 90% of new cars sold.
Meanwhile, in the Philippines, E10 gasoline has been widely used. Thailand has also introduced E85 gasoline for a long time.
In Vietnam, from January 1, 2018, E5 gasoline officially completely replaced RON 92 gasoline. There are 2 types of gasoline on the market: E5 gasoline and RON 95 gasoline.
