(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of April 9, the Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Association of Nghe An province held its 3rd Congress for the 2016 - 2021 term.

Attending the event were comrade Le Minh Thong - Member of the Provincial Party Committee - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; representatives of the Cuban Embassy in Vietnam; Central Committee of the Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Association; relevant departments and branches and members of the Nghe An Union of Friendship Organizations.

Delegates attending the Congress reviewed the tradition of friendly activities between the Parties and Governments of Vietnam and Cuba, affirming the need to further strengthen the special diplomatic relationship between the two countries in all fields in the new situation.

This Congress aims to perfect the Executive Committee and the Standing Committee with the motto of practical and effective operations and innovative thinking to continue to effectively propagate the revolutionary traditions of the People's Parties of Vietnam and Cuba, contributing to further strengthening the special relationship between the Parties, Governments and peoples of the two countries.

Over the past two terms of operation, the Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Association of Nghe An province has organized many meaningful and practical activities to promote the revolutionary traditions of the Party and people of Cuba, such as organizing meetings and discussions with Cuban cadres and students studying and working in Vietnam on the occasion of major holidays of the two nations; inviting Cuban professors and doctors to work and transfer neurosurgery techniques;...

Comrade Le Minh Thong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee highly appreciated the activities of the Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Association of Nghe An province in the past term and hoped that the new Executive Committee would organize more practical activities in people's foreign affairs.

Delegates enthusiastically discussed and contributed ideas on the targets and directions of the Association's activities in the new term; contributed ideas to supplement and amend the Association's charter, elected the Executive Committee for the 2016-2021 term to improve the effectiveness of participation in people-to-people foreign affairs activities, contributing to strengthening solidarity, friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance between the Vietnamese people in general, the people of Nghe An in particular, and the Party and people of Cuba.

Representatives of the Cuban Embassy in Vietnam presented the Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Association of Nghe An province with the book "55 years of Vietnam - Cuba strengthening friendship and development cooperation" in Vietnamese and Cuban compiled by Cuban scholars.

At the Congress, 7 individuals from the Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Association of Nghe An province were awarded Commemorative Medals, Certificates of Merit, and Certificates of Merit by the Provincial People's Committee and the Central Committee of the Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Association for their outstanding achievements in people-to-people diplomacy activities during the 2010 - 2016 term.

The Congress elected the Executive Committee of the Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Association of Nghe An province for the 2016 - 2021 term with 17 members, including 1 chairman and 3 vice chairmen.
