Building a grassroots broadcasting system to meet information and propaganda requirements

(Baonghean.vn) -This afternoon, October 11, comrade Huynh Thanh Dien - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee had a working session with the Department of Information and Communications to listen to the report on the Draft Project on developing a grassroots radio system to the commune, ward and town levels in Nghe An province.

Over the years, the grassroots radio system in the province has played an active role in propagating political, economic and social tasks to the people. However, most of the grassroots radio stations are inadequate and have difficulty in human resources. Most of the commune cultural officers also work in broadcasting, have little training through schools, and have limited writing, editing, broadcasting and information equipment usage skills. The whole province has only 438/480 communes, wards and towns with radio stations, of which 62 stations are operating well, 29.7% of the stations have old and degraded machinery and equipment systems.

The project to develop a grassroots radio system to the commune, ward and town levels sets out the goal (2011-2015 period, with a view to 2020) of building a system of grassroots radio stations in the direction of new, modern and synchronous technology, meeting the needs of information and propaganda, ensuring coverage of 100% of the population in the province. The project also sets out key solutions, focusing on improving the quality of human resources and mobilizing capital sources to invest in infrastructure for grassroots radio stations. The total estimated budget is over 102 billion VND, allocated over 5 years.

Concluding the meeting, comrade Huynh Thanh Dien noted: The Department of Information and Communications - the managing unit needs to investigate, collect opinions, and supplement inappropriate parts; must clearly define the content, tasks, and objectives; and need to carefully assess the current situation to draw out the existing problems, from which to have solutions to overcome them. In the solution, there must be specific solutions on finance and technology.
