Currently, environmental pollution is becoming increasingly serious, especially untreated waste in households. It is estimated that on average, each household throws away 2-3kg of waste per day, leading to an overload in the process of collecting and assembling waste in the whole province.

Faced with that situation, over the past years, the Provincial Women's Union has focused on directing all levels of the association to propagate and raise awareness among women of all walks of life about measures and forms of waste treatment in each household, establishing club models such as "Women with the environment", "Green - clean - beautiful alleys", contests "Learn about the environment", "Let's protect the earth", "Urban civilization"... In which, the most prominent is the model "Cleaning barns combined with raising earthworms".

After conducting a survey in Nghi Duc commune, Vinh city, the Provincial Women's Union directed the Commune Women's Union to report to the local Party Committee and government to organize voting and approval of 20 member households to implement the model; establish women's groups and a team of propagandists.

In order for the development model to ensure the set criteria and results; the Provincial Women's Union coordinated with the Vinh City Agricultural Extension Center to organize training on earthworm farming techniques for 20 selected households. After nearly 1 year of direction, currently in Nghi Duc commune, from the direction of implementing 20 households raising earthworms, 9 more households have been developed. Households raising earthworms ensure the process: taking buffalo and cow manure, composted waste for worms to eat; using wastewater to spray to create humidity for worms to grow, when the worms eat all the protein, the households use that compost to fertilize vegetables and worms to serve poultry farming (chickens, ducks, geese, geese...).

The process of raising earthworms is considered a closed cycle. This is one of the models that brings practical benefits to the people, so it has received positive response from local authorities and members.

In addition, to propagate the model to the majority of people in the commune, the Provincial Women's Union directed the commune's women to establish 10 women's groups, each group of 25-30 people; 10 propagandists.

Up to now, 10 groups have organized 30 meetings with the content of environmental issues in the area to implement 3 clean (clean house, clean kitchen, clean alley); communication on hand washing with soap; harmful effects of plastic bags; propaganda on the model "Cleaning barns combined with raising earthworms"... 10 propagandists have organized visits to 500 households to access and learn about the model "Cleaning barns combined with raising earthworms".

Thanks to the implementation of this model, the waste situation in Nghi Duc commune has been greatly reduced, people's awareness in collecting waste for worms to eat has been raised, especially in cleaning the surrounding environment, contributing to the successful implementation of the model "Family of 5 no, 3 clean" (no violation of the law and social responsibility, no third or more children, no children dropping out of school, no malnourished children, no domestic violence and clean house, clean kitchen, clean alley) and needs to be replicated.
