5-seat multi-purpose vehicles compete to 'pick the pockets' of rich customers

5-seat multi-purpose vehicles, priced from 1-1.5 billion VND, powerful engines, high chassis, flexibility,... with famous names, are entering a fierce competition to attract buyers.

The mid-size crossover segment is getting hotter as a series of new models, with many modern features, join the competition.

These are 5-seat multi-purpose vehicles, priced at around 1-1.5 billion VND, with powerful engines, high chassis, flexible, convenient for both city and highway travel, durable, equipped with many modern features, increasingly favored by wealthy customers. Some familiar names on the market recently are Honda CR-V, Mazda CX5, Hyundai Tucson, Renault Koleos... However, the most famous are still the 2 names Honda CR-V 2013 and Mazda CX5.

Despite the rear design being the most controversial point in the new generation, the 2013 Honda CR-V still tops the sales of Honda Vietnam in particular and of the crossover line in general.

With a fairly high selling price, from 998 million to 1.14 billion VND, but last September, Honda Vietnam sold 255 cars of both 2.0L and 2.4L versions. From the beginning of 2014 to the end of September, 2,249 cars of this type were sold, surpassing the B-class sedan model Honda City, which is very popular and has a much cheaper price.

Family friendly car

Another equally popular model is the Mazda CX5 thanks to its impression of movement, even though the car is still standing still. With a selling price of 1.185 billion VND for the 1-wheel drive version and 1.265 billion VND for the 2-wheel drive version, the Mazda CX5 has quite good sales. Last September, Vina Mazda sold 333 cars and from the beginning of the year to the end of September, it also sold 1,885 CX5 cars of all types.

However, this "two-horse" race has encountered a new opponent, the Peugeot 3008. On October 9, Truong Hai Auto Corporation officially launched this new model. This is a 5-seat multi-purpose vehicle with many new features, such as a lighting system that automatically turns off when people leave the car and turns on when approaching the car to open the door. In particular, this model is also equipped with a screen that displays operating parameters on the windshield (Head Up Display), which has only appeared on some luxury BMW cars...

Peugeot 3008 is also very different from its competitors when using a 1.6L turbocharged engine. Although smaller than the Honda CR-V (2.0-2.4 L) and Mazda CX-5 (2.0 L) engines, the Peugeot 3008's capacity is very strong, up to 161 horsepower, far surpassing the two competitors above.

The retail price of Peugeot 3008 was also surprisingly set by Truong Hai at 1.19 billion VND, equivalent to the selling price of CR-V (1.143 billion VND) and CX-5 (1.134 billion VND).

Car segment chosen by many consumers

Vina Star, the exclusive distributor of Mitsubishi cars in Vietnam, has just revealed the launch date of the 5-seat Outlander Sport multi-purpose vehicle imported completely from Japan.

The car is expected to arrive in Vietnam from November. Outlander Sport uses a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine with a capacity of 148 horsepower, with a 5-speed manual transmission version, or a CVT automatic transmission. Belonging to the latest generation on the world market, the car when imported to Vietnam is equipped with many modern equipment. The expected selling price of Outlander Sport is not more than 1 billion VND, quite competitive compared to Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5, Hyundai Tucson...

Next is another famous name: the new generation Ford Escape. This model has been launched by Ford in some markets in Southeast Asia. With a modern, masculine and angular design, showing off its beautiful appearance, this is a car with an impressive exterior. The size of the car is not much different from competitors in the same segment, but it uses large 19-inch alloy wheels, making the appearance more impressive and the high chassis makes it flexible to move.

In Vietnam, Ford has stopped assembling and distributing the old generation Escape model, so many predict that the new generation Ford Escape will quickly launch on the market and join the competition, making the crossover segment even more exciting.
