Although the demand for buying cars at the end of the year is high, the supply from larger manufacturers is so high that currently, the prices of Honda and Yamaha motorbikes are falling sharply, with some models falling below the suggested price by up to 2.5 million VND.

According to a survey by VnMedia on December 15 at a number of authorized dealers of Honda and Yamaha (two motorbike brands that account for about 93% of the market share of the Vietnamese motorbike market) in the Hanoi area, the price level of popular motorbikes has been on a sharp downward trend in the past month, in which the majority of Honda scooters have actual selling prices higher than the suggested prices of Honda Vietnam.

The top-selling female scooter model on the market, the Lead 125 premium version, is being heavily discounted, currently selling for 40 - 40.3 million VND, down about 800 thousand VND compared to the price in November, although it is still 1.5 - 1.8 million VND higher than the suggested price. The Lead 125 standard version has slightly decreased to 38.8 - 39 million VND, 1.3 - 1.5 million VND higher than the suggested price.

Launched in September, Vision 2014 has a new design and especially the popularization of eSP technology, idle stop, electric start of Honda for its lowest priced scooter model. Thanks to that, the actual selling price of the vehicle immediately increased sharply by 3-4 million VND after being launched on the market. At present, the price of Vision 2014 has cooled down by about 2 million VND, selling at 31 - 31.8 million VND depending on the color. However, this price is still higher than the suggested price by 1 - 1.8 million VND.

Honda's high-end scooter model, SH, is having mixed developments depending on the engine version: while the SH 125i has an actual selling price of about 68 million VND, 2 million VND higher than the suggested price, the SH 150i has a selling price of 79 million VND, 1 million VND lower than the suggested price. The younger brother SH mode currently has a selling price of about 52 million VND, although it has decreased by about 2 million VND compared to last month, it is still exactly 2 million VND higher than the suggested price.

The remaining two Honda scooter models, PCX and Air Blade, are both sold below the suggested price, with Air Blade - the best-selling model in the Vietnamese motorbike market - having the biggest discount of VND2.5 million. Specifically, at present, the standard Air Blade is selling for VND35.5 - 36 million, VND2-2.5 million lower than the suggested price and about VND500,000 lower than last month; the premium version and the magnetic paint version are selling for about VND37.7 and VND38.7 million, respectively, VND2.3 million lower than the suggested price.

At the same time, Yamaha's scooter prices have also decreased by about 500,000 - 1 million VND compared to the suggested price. In Hanoi, the third-ranked scooter model of the Japanese motorcycle company, Luvias FI, is being sold for 27 million VND, a decrease of 1 million VND compared to the suggested price. The newly launched scooter model Nozza Grande has a similar reduction, selling for about 39 and 41 million VND for the STD and Deluxe versions, respectively; the regular Nozza version alone has a selling price of about 28.3 million VND, a decrease of 600,000 VND compared to the suggested price. Yamaha's best-selling scooter model, Nouvo, has also decreased by about 500,000 VND compared to the suggested price of 34-36.4 million VND, depending on the version.

In the manual transmission segment, the prices of many models have also decreased quite sharply. Honda's best-selling manual transmission model, Wave Alpha, has a reduction of about 700,000 - 800,000 VND compared to the suggested price of last month, currently selling for only about 16.2 - 16.3 million VND/unit. The second manual transmission model, Wave RSX, has the strongest reduction compared to the suggested price, about 1.3 - 1.5 million VND, currently selling for about 18.2 - 22.5 million VND depending on the version.

Just released to the market in early November, Honda's expected manual transmission model, Blade, also has a reduction of about 800 thousand VND compared to the suggested price, selling at around 17.3 million VND.

In the same situation, Yamaha's manual motorbike models are also having their prices reduced sharply. Yamaha's best-selling manual motorbike model, Sirius, has been reduced by about 500 thousand - 1 million VND, in which the highest-end version, Sirius FI, has been reduced by 1 million VND, selling for 22 million VND. The best-selling manual motorbike model in the Vietnamese market, Exciter, is being sold for about 300 - 500 thousand VND lower than the suggested price of 37 - 40.2 million VND.

Although the prices of both scooters and motorbikes have decreased compared to before, according to representatives of some authorized Honda dealers, the current motorbike prices are still not the lowest, because there was a time when almost all Honda scooter models were sold below the suggested price.

According to preliminary statistics from the five largest FDI motorbike enterprises in Vietnam belonging to the Vietnam Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers (VAMM), total market sales in the first 10 months of the year reached more than 2.2 million units, down slightly by 3% compared to the same period last year - the lowest decline in the past three years.
