'Tearing the truth' in Trump's State of the Union address?

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi became agitated during a closed-door meeting with Democratic lawmakers on the morning of February 5 after President Donald Trump delivered the State of the Union address the night before, according to a source who attended the meeting. The House speaker tore up her copy.The State of the Union address came right after Trump finished reading it and the Republicans were standing up and applauding.

At the meeting, Pelosi criticized the 2020 State of the Union address as "a disgrace" and full of lies. "He tore up the truth, so I tore up his speech," Pelosi said.

Pelosi said the president's awarding of the Medal of Freedom to conservative radio founder Rush Limbaugh in the middle of his speech was an example of how Trump turned the State of the Union into a reality show and a campaign speech.

Many Republicans criticized the Speaker of the House for tearing up the State of the Union address in the middle of Congress. "Pelosi is petty. Ripping up a piece of paper doesn't change the facts written on it. The American people are winning, even though the Democrats did nothing," House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy tweeted.
