Solar powered sports car

Australian scientists, in collaboration with Swinburne University of Technology and a team of engineers, have just come up with a design for a sports car that runs on electricity directly from solar energy, called Immortus.

Thanks to its lightweight structure and optimized aerodynamics, the car is expected to be highly efficient in operation and commerce. It has 2 seats and luggage. Solar panels are placed along the length of the roof, covering an area of ​​over 6m2. Thanks to the solar panels, when it is sunny, it will provide direct electricity, allowing the car to drive at speeds of over 60 km/h.

The car carries a rechargeable battery pack with a lithium-ion battery, so Immortus can accelerate to 62 mph in 7 seconds and has a top speed of more than 93 mph. It can travel more than 340 miles (545km) non-stop.

The bike has a plug-in electric drivetrain and a pair of hub motors mounted on the rear wheels. The wheels are covered to reduce air resistance while running. The Immortus has been designed for ease of assembly, using an ultra-lightweight off-the-shelf carbon fiber tubing frame, with 3D nodes connecting the tubes.

The car is estimated to cost around $370,000. The manufacturers expect to display the Immortus at the CES trade show in Las Vegas (USA) later this year.
