In a statement issued on the afternoon of June 29, Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) said that after increasing electricity prices, EVN's electricity sales revenue is expected to increase by VND3,710 billion, corresponding to EVN's expected commercial electricity output from July 1, 2012 to December 31, 2012 of 56.8 billion kWh (including electricity output exported to Cambodia), which will be used to offset the increase in coal prices and part of the remaining costs from previous years.


EVN said that this electricity price adjustment does not change the subjects of price application or price structure, but only adjusts the price for subjects according to the structure prescribed in Decision 268/QD-TTg dated February 23, 2011 of the Prime Minister.


“The adjustment of electricity prices on July 1, 2012 has no significant impact on production, business activities and people's lives,” EVN affirmed.

This group cited an example: poor households and low-income households using up to 50 kWh/month of electricity are not affected by keeping the electricity price unchanged (993 VND/kWh).


Households using 100 kWh/month for normal daily use will increase their spending by 4,200 VND/month, those using 150 kWh/month will increase their spending by 8,600 VND/month, those using 200 kWh/month will increase their spending by 14,050 VND/month, those using 300 kWh/month will increase their spending by 26,050 VND/month, and those using 400 kWh/month will increase their spending by 38,950 VND/month.
