Women with high levels of a particular protein were 56% more likely to have a stroke.

Researchers from Harvard University analyzed 473 blood samples from women who had a stroke over nine years, and a similar number of blood analyses from women who did not have a stroke.

The study found that women who had had a stroke in the past had blood levels of a particular protein of 1.86 mg/l compared with 1.8 mg/l in those who had not had a stroke. When the volunteers were divided into four groups according to their protein levels, those with the highest levels were 56% more likely to have a stroke than those with the lowest levels. Note that this study was only conducted in women.

Ischemic stroke is the most common, occurring when a blood clot forms in the brain. All women were selected based on other factors that affect stroke risk, including smoking history and use of hormonal medications.

Every year, hundreds of thousands of people face strokes, many of whom die, while tens of thousands suffer severe neurological damage, significantly reducing their quality of life and becoming disabled. That is why it is so important to provide doctors with an effective means of diagnosing strokes.
