University Admissions 2015: Unable to End Days of Anxiety

August 20, 2015 08:09

2015 university admissions ended registration for first choice today, but many schools may not be able to recruit enough students in the first round.

Today (August 20) is the last day for universities to receive applications for the first admission. According to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, schools can completely announce the admission scores on the evening of August 20. After that, candidates have 5 days to know whether they passed or failed to apply for the additional admission.

Trong ngày 19/8, các điểm trường đông nghẹt thí sinh đến rút hồ sơ. Các trường cũng huy động tối đa lực lượng phục vụ thí sinh.
On August 19, schools were packed with candidates coming to withdraw their applications. Schools also mobilized maximum staff to serve the candidates.

Thus, the first round of additional admission from August 25 to September 15 will announce the benchmark score on September 20; the second round of additional admission from September 20 to October 5 will announce the benchmark score before October 10.

According to this schedule, many candidates, despite having high scores, if they fail their first choice, will still continue the journey of "second choice admission", which also means they have to "struggle" for nearly 3 months to know the fate of their path to fame.

Feeling stifled and frustrated is the common feeling of many parents and students in the last two days (August 19 and 20) of the first round of application submission. The schools where students come to withdraw their applications are crowded. Fatigue is also evident on the faces of many teachers working in the admissions department.

Many parents shared that since they learned their high school exam results until today, they have been unable to eat or sleep. Even though their children got high scores, they feel like they are holding onto an invisible but powerful string that pulls them and their children day after day, even though they have left, they still try to follow. As for the teachers who work in admissions at universities, they have never been as confused as they are now. Every year, students who have enough points bring their applications to submit. But this year, when a student got 24 points, they were asked whether they would be admitted to the X or Y departments of the school, and the teachers did not know either.

The last two days were like playing the stock market on the weekend. The scores and the number of candidates applying kept changing. All worries were at their peak. “Playing the last game” to wait for the luck of fate. A wave of candidates withdrew from one school to apply to another, causing the numbers to constantly rise and fall like a dance.

Many experts believe that the first round of admission is already complicated, and the second and third rounds are even more complicated. And it is possible that in the first round, many schools will not be able to meet their enrollment quota.

Some of the goals set for this exam have not yet been finalized but it is already seen that they have failed.

Specifically, the goal of saving costs for candidates and for the organization of the exam is considered to be completely "bankrupt". Many days of wandering, worrying, withdrawing, submitting, and running around have become a "nightmare" for many parents and students. Some parents shared, "Every night I dream about increasing the score of this school, lowering the score of that school." And many parents said that they have quit their jobs at the office to "wait" with their children at schools, monitoring the withdrawal and submission of applications.

The second goal is to use the results of an exam to both certify high school graduation and consider university and college admissions. But up to now, there are up to 170 universities and colleges that have announced their own admission plans.

The orientation of the university and college entrance exams is unclear, and career guidance still has many shortcomings. In fact, many students take the exam and submit their applications based on the trend, not knowing the needs of the socio-economic situation. In the past few days, public opinion has been stirred by the incident of a young man standing on the street holding a sign: "I just graduated, I am a father. I need a job to buy milk for my child. You need to hire me." This is the consequence of our unscientific planning of education sectors.

This exam has not reached its goal yet, but there are too many things that need to be fixed if we want to continue applying the new exam format next year. Many people think that we should wait until the enrollment period is over, let the Ministry summarize and then discuss further because this is the final stage of enrollment, we should not let candidates panic any longer./.
