University Admissions 2015: Points Candidates Need to Note

June 17, 2015 18:11

In the 2015 university entrance exams, candidates were entitled to preferential policies based on their eligibility group and exam location.

Following the release of aggregated data on the aptitude test scores of candidates from the aptitude test held in early June, Hanoi National University has just announced the admission scores for more than 100 majors. The admission principle is to use the results of the first aptitude test for the first round of admissions.

Kỳ thi đánh giá năng lực được tổ chức mới đây thu hút sự quan tâm của đông đảo phụ huynh, học sinh.
The recently held aptitude test has attracted considerable attention from parents and students.

The eligibility requirement for applicants to apply to member faculties and schools is a minimum score of 70 points on the aptitude test, depending on the specific major. For the University of Foreign Languages, applicants must achieve a minimum score of 6 points in the Foreign Language subject. The admission process considers aptitude test scores from highest to lowest until the quota is filled. The Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, however, considers applicants who took the aptitude test with the elective subject of Natural Sciences (including Physics, Chemistry, and Biology). This faculty also has the highest admission threshold at 85 points.

Candidates who participated in the Hanoi National University's aptitude test must submit their applications for the first round of admissions to the programs of each member school and faculty from June 8th to June 25th. The condition for submitting an application to the member schools and faculties is that the aptitude test score must be 70 points or higher. Candidates can send their applications by registered mail or submit them directly to the Admissions Council of the training unit they wish to attend. During the application period, candidates are allowed one opportunity to withdraw their application and submit it to another program within the same school or faculty, or to another school or faculty within Hanoi National University.

Mr. Nguyen Kim Son, Vice Director of Hanoi National University and Head of the Steering Committee for Regular University Admissions in 2015, stated that candidates can register for a maximum of three majors at a single training unit in order of priority: “When applying for admission to a member university of Hanoi National University, you can register for three nguyện vọng (preferences), not just one; ranked in order 1, 2, 3. For example, if you are applying to the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, you can register Journalism as your first preference, Philosophy as your second, and Literature as your third. If you do not meet the score for your first preference, your second preference will automatically be considered.”

According to Mr. Nguyen Kim Son, although the number of candidates taking the aptitude test this year is high, with over 43,000 students, the ratio of candidates participating in the admissions process compared to the enrollment quota is similar to last year, so candidates should not worry too much: “Candidates use the results of the aptitude test to include in their application for training programs, and we will select candidates from highest to lowest scores according to the quota. If a program has many applicants, the admission score will naturally be a little higher. However, I would also like to point out that not all candidates registering for the exam this year are applying to Hanoi National University; some are just taking the exam to assess their abilities. Or they may have other aspirations. Secondly, like last year, the number of candidates taking the exam for Hanoi National University also reached approximately 35,000. Thus, this year the exam format is more open, but compared to the number of candidates in previous years, the number is only slightly higher.” Stop".

During the admission process, candidates also benefit from preferential policies based on their group and examination area. Specifically, priority points are added to the results of the aptitude test. The difference in points between consecutive groups is 5 points, and between two consecutive areas is 2.5 points. To facilitate the application process, the Admissions Councils publicly announce information related to candidate registration and the admissions process of the training units; and update candidate registration information on the website every three days. The Admissions Councils of the faculties and member schools of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi will announce the list of admitted candidates (for candidates who have graduated from high school) and candidates who have met the entrance examination score threshold (for candidates who have not yet graduated from high school) on their websites before June 30th. Candidates who have been admitted in the first round are not allowed to register for the supplementary admission round.
