Trial of 28 defendants for illegal drug trafficking
(Baonghean.vn) -On the morning of September 25, the Provincial People's Court opened the first instance criminal trial of the case of illegal possession and trafficking of narcotics against 28 defendants who are prisoners serving sentences at Prison No. 3 - Ministry of Public Security.
The defendants brought to trial include: Le Xuan Minh (born in 1969), Dang Dinh Tho (born in 1973), Tran Van Them (born in 1971), Tran Van Hai (born in 1985), Tran Quoc Ky (born in 1977), Hoang Manh Thanh (born in 1987), Pham Van Thiet (born in 1957), Nguyen Minh Hien (born in 1984), Le Dinh Lieu (born in 1982), Le Quoc Hung (born in 1979), Ngo Manh Trung (born in 1971), Tran Minh Mao (born in 1987), Hoang Van Nhung (born in 1977), Nguyen Thanh Vinh (born in 1987), Tran Van Dan (born in 1974), Dinh Viet Hai (born in 1971), Ly Van Luong (born in 1974), Dau Van Thinh (born in 1970), Nguyen Ngoc Hai (born in 1965), Nguyen Ngoc Lan (born in 1981), Nguyen Manh Cuong (born in 1975), Nguyen The Anh (born in 1977), Nguyen Van Cong (born in 1977), Nguyen Sy Khuong (born in 1972), Hoang Xuan Son (born in 1971).'
The defendants in the dock
The indictment of the Provincial People's Procuracy determined that: from December 2010 to November 2011, Le Xuan Minh organized 6 times to bring 6.9 heroin trees weighing 258.75g into the prison cell for sale. Nguyen Thanh Vinh kept 2.9 heroin trees weighing 108.75g for Le Xuan Minh 3 times. Tran Van Them (currently serving an 11-year prison sentence for illegal drug trafficking) transported 2 heroin trees weighing 75g of Le Xuan Minh from the labor camp to the prison cell twice and received heroin from Minh many times to sell retail.
In addition, many prisoners participated in the drug storage and trafficking ring led by Le Xuan Minh in many different ways. Many defendants prosecuted and brought to trial in this case are serving long sentences for their crimes. Le Quoc Hung is serving a life sentence for murder; Tran Van Dan, Hoang Xuan Son, Nguyen Van Thu are serving life sentences for drug storage and trafficking. The remaining defendants are serving sentences from 7 to 20 years for rape, robbery, drug trafficking, murder, etc.
The defendants are all prisoners serving their sentences at Prison No. 3 (located in Tan Ky district) and the number of people brought to trial is too large, so the trial is taking place at the Hall of the Provincial Police Detention Center. On September 25, the Trial Council has just completed the trial procedures and the representative of the Provincial People's Procuracy read the 37-page indictment on the defendants' crimes. The trial is expected to take place over 2 days, September 25-26.
