(Baonghean.vn) -Currently, in our province, there are still manual brick kilns, improved manual kilns, continuous vertical kilns and due to outdated technology, firing by manual kilns, the bricks are of low quality, consume a lot of fuel, cause environmental pollution...

Previously, Nam Dan and Hung Nguyen districts were localities with many manual brick kilns, but thanks to the good implementation of the province's policy on eliminating manual brick kilns, Nam Dan has now "eliminated" brick kilns using manual methods. In Hung Nguyen, there are currently only 5 manual brick kilns left and the district is actively participating in propaganda and mobilizing people to change production technology.

Besides the localities that have implemented the policy of eliminating manual brick kilns well, there are still many places that are implementing very slowly. In Nghi Loc, due to the existence of 45 manual brick kilns, improved manual kilns, and continuous vertical kilns, not only pollute the environment in the district, but also affect the environment of Vinh City. Because local authorities have not actively intervened and lacked plans to change production models, there are still many manual brick kilns in Nghi Loc, causing environmental pollution and causing frustration for the people.

Manual brick kilns in Nghi Loc cause environmental pollution

According to statistics from the functional sector, in Do Luong district there are still 46 manual brick kilns, improved manual kilns, and continuous vertical kilns; Thai Hoa town has 45 kilns; Tan Ky district has 26 kilns; Quynh Luu has 23 kilns; Thanh Chuong has 14 kilns; Anh Son has 14 kilns... If totaled in districts, cities, and towns, there will be 274 manual brick kilns, improved manual kilns, and continuous vertical kilns with an output of about 165 million bricks.

An alarming reality of the current situation of handmade brick kilns is the situation of "swallowing" agricultural land. Handmade kilns, improved handmade kilns, continuous vertical kilns, are often built on cultivated land, the raw material is locally sourced clay, produced on simple, outdated production lines, using firing technology with handmade kilns, so handmade bricks are of low quality, consume a lot of fuel, pollute the environment, affect public health, reduce crop yields and destroy cultivated land. Therefore, in the coming time, all levels and functional sectors will actively participate in effectively implementing the policy of eliminating handmade brick kilns.

It is known that according to the province's plan by 2017, in the plains, urban areas (cities, towns, townships), places near residential areas, near agricultural areas, all manual brick kilns, improved manual kilns, and continuous vertical kilns must be stopped. Of which, manual kilns must stop operating by 2013; improved manual kilns must stop operating by 2015; Continuous vertical kilns must stop operating by 2017. Accordingly, in mountainous areas, a roadmap must be developed to stop manual brick burning and improved manual kilns by the end of 2017 at the latest, and by 2020 for continuous vertical kilns.

The relevant departments shall strengthen the inspection of the management of exploitation and use of resources (clay, etc.) for the production of fired bricks, and environmental inspection at fired clay brick production facilities, especially brick and tile production facilities using manual, improved manual, and circular kilns in accordance with the legal regulations on natural resources and the environment from the perspective of environmental protection and sustainable development. In addition, the issuance of licenses for registration of production and business of manual fired bricks shall be temporarily suspended and the issuance of licenses for enterprises registering to produce and trade tunnel bricks shall be restricted. The province shall prioritize funding sources to encourage investment according to the mechanism, creating favorable conditions to attract investment in the production of non-fired construction materials and the conversion of production of fired clay materials to non-fired construction materials in the area.
