Thoroughly manage waste generated in the area during the Lunar New Year holiday.
On January 9, 2025, the People's Committee of Nghe An province issued Document No. 199/UBND-NN to the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, directing them to strengthen control and strict monitoring of waste sources to ensure environmental hygiene during the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake.
Accordingly, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to take the lead in coordinating with relevant agencies and units to urgently review and implement tasks according to the guidance and direction of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
Specifically, in Document No. 68/BTNMT dated January 3, 2025, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment directed the People's Committees of the provinces to effectively implement the following contents:
Arrange and deploy forces to receive and process information promptly, proactively prevent and mobilize resources to organize the handling and remediation of environmental pollution (if any) quickly and effectively; report promptly to specialized agencies responsible for responding to related incidents (fire prevention, explosion prevention, chemical spills, oil spills, transportation of hazardous goods, etc.) and coordinate in responding to, mitigating, and minimizing damage in case of an incident.
Continue to maintain and operate waste treatment systems and facilities effectively, ensuring that treatment meets national technical standards on the environment; strengthen inspection, control, and close supervision of projects and facilities with a risk of environmental pollution, especially large sources of emissions or facilities with a risk of waste incidents or environmental incidents; proactively monitor and closely supervise projects and facilities with a risk of environmental pollution through automatic and continuous wastewater and exhaust gas monitoring systems and other appropriate measures.
Implement plans for the thorough collection, storage, transportation, and treatment of waste generated in the area, especially solid household waste in public areas, markets, densely populated residential areas, cultural tourism areas, entertainment and recreation areas, and waste from production and business establishments that generate large volumes of waste, absolutely preventing waste accumulation in urban areas, commercial areas, and residential areas.
