Treatment of people poisoned by sleeping pills
Many people believe that herbal sedatives are harmless... However, most sleeping pills can be harmful to the body and even cause death.
Most sleeping pills can be harmful to the body.
Due to the pressure of life, work, and nervous tension, many people suffer from chronic insomnia and often have to rely on sedatives to maintain sleep.
Symptoms of sleeping pill poisoning
If the poisoning is mild, the person will still sleep soundly, breathe regularly, the pulse will still be regular and clear, and the reaction when the skin is pinched or pricked with a needle... tendon reflexes and pupils will be reduced or still normal.
People with severe poisoning will fall into a deep coma, have slow and shallow breathing, wheezing, rapid pulse, low or unmeasurable blood pressure, constricted pupils and reduced light reflexes, and loss of tendon and muscle reflexes.
The breath of a poisoned victim may smell of medicine. The victim has difficulty breathing, has an itchy throat, itchy nose, and sometimes breathes slower or faster than normal (normal adults breathe 16-18 times/minute). The heart beats fast, sometimes slow. The heart beats irregularly and intermittently.
There may also be vomiting, possibly vomiting blood, abdominal pain, diarrhea. There may be urinary retention, urine may be pinkish red (bloody) or black, green, yellow depending on the drug. If severe, the victim may have anuria (inability to urinate), blurred vision, tinnitus, pupils in the eyes may be dilated or smaller than normal, dry, blue-purple skin. There may be high fever or hypothermia, cold hands and feet, sweating...
How to handle
Perform actions to remove poison from the victim's body by inducing vomiting by hooking the victim's throat, pressing the base of the victim's tongue to stimulate vomiting. Or mix very concentrated salt water and give it to drink to induce vomiting reflex.
Try to always keep the airway open, regularly suction out phlegm, keep the patient's head low and tilted to allow phlegm to flow out easily... Be ready to prevent respiratory arrest, intubate and provide respiratory support when needed.
If Ipeca syrup is available at home, give the victim 30ml, then give about 300ml of water (if the child is a child, give half this dose).
If not, give the victim crushed green bean water, water spinach, or sweet potato. Then quickly transfer the victim to a medical facility for appropriate and timely treatment.
When discovering that a person poisoned by sleeping pills has stopped breathing and has stopped breathing, first restore the victim's respiratory and circulatory functions by artificial respiration.
Note: Only induce vomiting when the victim is conscious. When the victim has vomited, the vomit should be retained and taken to the hospital to identify the substance causing the poisoning and treat with the appropriate antidote.
When the victim is in a coma, the head should be placed low and tilted to one side to avoid choking on vomit. Do not induce vomiting in case of convulsions, severe heart failure, or very pregnant women.
