Towards the 60th Anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory, the People's Army Publishing House has just published a series of 13 books about this event. These are publications with rich content and new research and evaluation, reflecting the greatness of the victory, one of the brilliant milestones in the history of the nation and the world.

The book series commemorating the 60th anniversary of the historic Dien Bien Phu Victory includes 13 books: Dien Bien Phu (General Vo Nguyen Giap), Dien Bien Phu through documentary pages (Group of authors), General Vo Nguyen Giap and the Dien Bien Phu campaign (General Vo Nguyen Giap), Dien Bien Phu - a golden milestone of the era (General Vo Nguyen Giap), Dien Bien Phu victory from the perspective of foreigners (Many authors), Questions and answers about the Dien Bien Phu campaign (Many authors), Dien Bien Phu - a historical wonder (Hoang Lam), Dien Bien Phu - numbers and events (Group of authors), Dien Bien Phu - witnesses and events (Group of authors), Dien Bien Phu - 60-year memories (Do Sam), Dien Bien Phu campaign - victory of Vietnamese bravery and intelligence (Vu Nhu Khoi), Dien Bien Phu campaign - the pinnacle of Vietnamese military culture in the resistance war against France (Many authors), Learning about the Dien Bien Phu campaign through military terminology (Many authors).

Here the new point and also the breakthrough point of the book series is in the approach. This time, the Publisher focuses on works with new approaches such as the book Questions and Answers about the Dien Bien Phu campaign, focusing on the core, the key points, raising the right issues with concise answers. Or the book Understanding the Dien Bien Phu campaign through military terminology compiles entries about Dien Bien Phu, arranged according to the progress of the campaign. These are carefully compiled, distilled, easy to read, easy to remember entries, helping readers quickly learn about the event. In addition, the book has an appendix (Index) for readers to look up quickly. This will be the fastest, most scientific, and closest tool for a wide range of readers when they need to learn about the Dien Bien Phu campaign.

In this book series, the book Dien Bien Phu Victory through the documents of foreigners is a collection of assessments and comments on the campaign from the other side such as French generals, French soldiers as well as military commentators, researchers, French people and the world from the early days of the campaign until its end. The first part, titled Predictions of the inevitable defeat of France at Dien Bien Phu, cited the signs that foretold the defeat of French colonialism on the Vietnamese battlefield from 1947 until the 1953 campaigns. However, French leaders and generals ignored those predictions and then eagerly and arrogantly entered the Dien Bien Phu campaign.

The second and also the central part with the title Dien Bien Phu in the memory of the French who directly participated in the war is the admission of defeat before the Vietnamese military art, as the French General Navarre exclaimed: The defeat at Dien Bien Phu was "the spiritual collapse of France".

The final part of the book, titled Dien Bien Phu and the Indochina War from the perspective of the French people and the world, provides readers with further assessments of the world's people on this historic victory.

Occupying a significant portion of this commemorative book series are reprinted books that are popular with readers and have a large number of copies. Notable are the works written about the Dien Bien Phu campaign by General Commander-in-Chief Vo Nguyen Giap - including Dien Bien Phu (sixth reprint), Dien Bien Phu - Golden Milestone of the Era (second reprint), General Vo Nguyen Giap and the Dien Bien Phu campaign (second reprint). These are works of both great scientific value and literary quality, appealing to many different readers. In these articles and works, the author has deeply analyzed our and the enemy's strategic policies, clarifying the strategic offensive ideology and the art of proactively attacking the enemy in all situations.

In particular, the book General Vo Nguyen Giap and the Dien Bien Phu campaign devoted a large part to the General's memoirs about the process of commanding the campaign until the day of total victory. The portrait of the talented General - the famous general of the 20th century in the Dien Bien Phu campaign was recorded authentically through the General's own narration, performed by writer Huu Mai. At all times, in all places, in all conditions and circumstances, General Vo Nguyen Giap always deeply understood the viewpoint that "the people are the source of strength to defend the country" and he truly became "a Commander-in-Chief who knows the pain of every soldier's wound, knows how to regret every drop of blood of each warrior", so before each decision to fight, the General always maintained the crucial viewpoint of being determined to win but must minimize the sacrifice of blood and bones of the troops.

It can be said that the book series commemorating the Dien Bien Phu Victory is a rather grandiose picture reflecting a historical campaign. Although not numerous in quantity and still has certain shortcomings, this is a valuable, practical and timely book series contributing to the activities commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory. Hopefully, the book series will be a valuable journey taking readers back to the heroic years when the whole country went to war to create a "world-shaking" Dien Bien Phu in 1954. The book series is a continuation of the works published by the People's Army Publishing House on the subject of history and revolutionary war to serve the research work and learning needs at home and abroad as well as of soldiers and people across the country.
