The giant fish was still swimming very healthily when brought to Ho Chi Minh City. |
According to seafood traders in Ho Chi Minh City, the 170 kg giant grouper is the largest giant grouper ever imported to Ho Chi Minh City.
Saltwater fish are so large that the journey from capture to transport over hundreds of kilometers is often very difficult. Keeping them alive is very rare.
The giant grouper, scientifically known as Epinephelus lanceolatus, is the largest bony fish found on coral reefs. It lives throughout the Indian and Pacific Oceans, except the Persian Gulf. It lives in shallow waters and feeds on a variety of marine life, including small sharks and small sea turtles.
