According to the Vietnam Young Astronomers Association, a solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun and, as observed from Earth, the Moon completely or partially obscures the Sun. Solar eclipses are not rare, usually occurring once every 1-2 years. However, in Vietnam, the most recent one we observed was a solar eclipse in March 2016.
Thus, after nearly 4 years, this phenomenon returns to our country. The next solar eclipse is predicted to appear in June 2020. The solar eclipse that takes place today (December 26) is an annular solar eclipse, or a partial solar eclipse.
