The State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) has just announced that recently, counterfeit polymer money of 200,000 VND has appeared on the market, which looks quite similar to real money, counterfeiting some security elements but is not sophisticated, and can be recognized by hand and the naked eye.
Accordingly, the recently appeared counterfeit money has faked the embossed print by printing additional corresponding characters in colorless (transparent) ink in the following positions: the words "Socialist Republic of Vietnam", the letters and denomination numbers (large) on the front; the words "State Bank of Vietnam", the letters and denomination numbers on the back.
When stroking lightly at these positions, you can also feel the raised surface but it is not rough or coarse like real money, to deceive consumers' senses when checking the raised print.
When examining a bill under ultraviolet (UV) light, the characters printed in colorless ink usually fluoresce and are easy to recognize. In addition, under ultraviolet (UV) light, the vertical and horizontal serial numbers do not fluoresce. Counterfeit colorless ink fluoresces, but the intensity is weak and not as bright as real money.
Therefore, consumers need to check other security factors to confirm the authenticity of the coin.
According to the State Bank, currently all types of counterfeit polymer money are printed on a regular nylon background, so they are very easy to stretch or tear; they are not durable and do not have the characteristic elasticity of polymer. Therefore, consumers can also check by pulling and lightly tearing the edge of the money. If it is real money, it will be very difficult to tear or stretch. Or, hold the money in the palm of your hand. When you open your hand, if it is real money, it will return to its original state, as before you held it.
Also in this announcement, the State Bank provides some specific identification features as follows:
(1) When holding the bill up to a light source, the watermark is just a simulation, without the delicate, clear printed details of real money;
(2) The positioning image (the image on the front and the image on the back printed in the same position) does not match, is not balanced and does not form even white light slots like real money when the bill is held up to a light source;
(3) The fake color-changing ink is printed with gold ink, when tilted it does not change from yellow to green like the color-changing ink (OVI) element of real money (only available on 100,000 VND, 200,000 VND and 500,000 VND);
(4) Check the small window (only available in 50,000 VND, 100,000 VND, 200,000 VND and 500,000 VND), there is no hidden image element (DOE) like real money.
The State Bank of Vietnam warns that criminals are always changing their tricks, looking for ways to improve their methods of making counterfeit money look more and more like real money. Therefore, the characteristics of counterfeit money are also always changing, and counterfeit money that appears later is often more sophisticated.
To minimize the risk of receiving counterfeit money, consumers need to clearly understand the characteristics, how to check security factors and check the money when buying, selling and transacting./.
