Exports to Americas reached 15.5 billion USD in 8 months
Among the American countries that have trade relations with Vietnam, the United States remains the largest trading partner.
Textiles and garments are Vietnam's main export items to many countries in the Americas.
The Department of American Market (Ministry of Industry and Trade) cited statistics from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, saying that import-export turnover between Vietnam and countries in the Americas in the first 8 months of 2012 reached more than 20.8 billion USD, an increase of 17% compared to the same period in 2011.
Vietnam is still a country with a trade surplus with this market, with export turnover reaching nearly 15.5 billion USD and import turnover reaching over 5.3 billion USD, increasing by more than 18% and 13% respectively over the same period last year.
Exports alone reached nearly 68% of the planned export target to the American market in 2012 and are expected to reach the export target of 23 billion USD to this market by the end of the year.
Among the countries in the Americas that have trade relations with Vietnam, the United States remains Vietnam's largest trade partner with total import-export turnover in the first 8 months of 2012 reaching 16.2 billion USD, an increase of 18% over the same period in 2011. Of which, export turnover from Vietnam to the US market was nearly 13 billion USD, reaching 68% of the plan.
Next are Brazil with nearly 1.2 billion USD, up 38%, Canada with nearly 1.04 billion USD, up 22%, Argentina with nearly 593 million USD, down 1% and Mexico with nearly 549 million USD, up 30%.
Vietnam's main exports to America include:
Textiles and garments reached over 5.3 billion USD, up 10% over the same period in 2011. Not only accounting for a large proportion of export value, textiles and garments are also Vietnam's main export item to many countries in the Americas. In the first 8 months of 2012, Vietnam exported nearly 5 billion USD to the US market, nearly 207 million USD to the Canadian market, and nearly 63 million USD to the Mexican market.
Footwear is the second largest export item of Vietnam to the American market. In the first 8 months of 2012, Vietnam exported nearly 2 billion USD worth of footwear to this market, an increase of 17% and accounting for about 13% of the export value to the American market. The United States is still the main market for footwear originating from Vietnam with a turnover of 1.45 billion USD, followed by Brazil with a turnover of 180.32 million USD, Mexico with 142.41 million USD, and Canada with 85.76 million USD.
Wood and wood products ranked third among the items with export turnover from Vietnam to America with a total export value of nearly 1.22 billion USD in the first 8 months of 2012, an increase of 31% and accounting for about 8% of the export value to America. Of which, the two main markets importing this item from Vietnam are the United States with more than 1.15 billion USD and Canada with 74.5 million USD.
Seafood products ranked 4th with export turnover from Vietnam to the American market reaching about 1.1 billion USD, up 9%, accounting for 7% of the value of export items to the Americas. The US market is still the largest importer of Vietnamese seafood products with a turnover of 790.2 million USD in the first 8 months of 2012. Next is Canada with 88.86 million USD, Mexico with 66.98 million USD.
The main imported goods from the American market to Vietnam are Computers, Electronic products & components 740 million USD, up 354% compared to the same period in 2011; Animal feed and raw materials 663 million USD, up 1%; Other machinery, equipment, spare parts 583 million USD, up 12%; Cotton of all kinds 260 million USD, down 43%./.
