15 millionth Honda motorbike manufactured in Vietnam

The 15 millionth Honda motorbike produced in Vietnam has just officially left the factory.

The 15 millionth motorbike is an Air Blade, a popular scooter model since its first launch in the Vietnamese market in April 2007.

In 1996, Honda Vietnam was established as a joint venture between Honda Motor Company Japan, Vietnam Engine and Agricultural Machinery Corporation (VEAM) and Asian Honda Motor Company Thailand. In 1998, this joint venture produced its first motorbike.

In July 2008, the 5 millionth Honda vehicle was produced and by September 2011, Honda Vietnam reached the production milestone of 10 million vehicles.

Thus, it took Honda Vietnam 10 years to produce the first 5 million motorbikes, but this joint venture only needed 4 years to reach the next 5 million, and 3 years for the next 5 million motorbikes.

Since 2011, Honda Vietnam has started planning to boost exports in order to achieve the goal of making Vietnam a center for Honda motorbike exports.

Currently, the car company with the largest market share in Vietnam has two motorbike factories operating with a capacity of about 2.1 million units/year. The third motorbike factory started production in March 2014, starting with the production of spare parts and is expected to produce finished vehicles from October 2014.

Most recently, Honda Vietnam has expanded the production capacity of its gear manufacturing workshop to over 2.3 million products/year, and its piston manufacturing workshop has also been completed and put into operation since April 2014. In the near future, the company's large spare parts center will also be put into operation.

In 2013, Honda Vietnam's export turnover of completely built-up motorbikes reached 40,000 units and the export target in 2014 is 100,000 units.
