(Baonghean) -Returning from the Central Highlands battlefield with an unsound body, veteran Vi Kim Thanh's thoughts and actions always left a beautiful image in the villagers about the qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers.

Veteran Vi Kim Thanh is a son of Na Phay village, Muong Noc commune, Que Phong district. In 1971, when he was just 21 years old, he joined the army and fought in the Central Highlands battlefield. During a battle, he was seriously injured, losing an ear and having many pieces of shrapnel embedded in his head and face.

After leaving the battlefield, he was sent for treatment and recuperation for 9 months, then returned to his hometown to start a family and was certified as a 4/4 disabled veteran. Life in the poor border village was still very difficult, and when the weather changed, the pain tormented him. However, with the determination of a soldier, he and his wife worked hard to raise 2 children. However, their life depended on farming and a few acres of rice, so his family was considered a poor household in the commune.

He is a close old friend to the children.

Yet he has always been a pioneer in local social movements. From 2007 to now, he has voluntarily donated more than 250m2 of land to serve the construction of Muong Noc Kindergarten. The first time was in 2007, he donated more than 100m2 of land to build and expand the school campus. The second time was in 2011, he donated more than 150m2 of land to expand the school campus. Teacher Tran Thi Thanh Ha - Principal of Muong Noc Kindergarten shared: "Thanks to Mr. Thanh's voluntary donation of land, the school campus was expanded, almost meeting the requirements to build a national standard school. His heart for the children and the school is truly precious. Mr. Lo Minh Tung - Vice Chairman of Muong Noc Commune People's Committee said: "When he learned that the plan to build the kindergarten was facing difficulties in expanding the area, Mr. Thanh did not hesitate to donate land without having to campaign. He is very passionate about social work.

Passing by the kindergarten, seeing the children playing innocently, babbling and spelling, I saw his eyes twinkling, his mouth smiling with satisfaction. He also said with a firm voice: Because I am Uncle Ho's soldier, no matter the circumstances or period, I must live up to that title."
