(Baonghean) -Nghe An Newspaper on July 16, 2012 had an article: “Sawmill “swallows” illegal wood”, which stated: In Hung Linh commune, Hung Nguyen district, Mr. Th, the owner of a wood workshop in hamlet 9, poured in nearly 1 billion VND worth of all kinds of wood. At Mr. Th’s workshop, there were nearly 100 cubic meters of wood; at Mr. Nghia’s workshop, wood filled the road, yard, garden, and alley. Dozens of cubic meters of wood were scattered on the dike.
After the newspaper was published, on July 27, 2012, the Steering Committee on urgent issues in BVR and PCCCR of Hung Nguyen district sent Report No. 101/BC-UBND to Nghe An Newspaper stating:
On July 20, 2012, Hung Nguyen Forest Protection Department coordinated with Hung Linh Commune People's Committee to directly enter the house of Mr. Th. (Thanh) - 39 years old, hamlet 9A, Hung Linh Commune, Hung Nguyen. Through the actual inspection at Mr. Th's house: The family is a purely agricultural producer, without a sawmill or wood processing or manufacturing, checking inside the house and around the garden, there was no wood. At the time of inspection, Mr. Th had 6 doors that were completely closed for use because the house had just been built and did not have doors. The delegation made a verification report witnessed by the Chief of Hung Linh Commune Police.

The inspection team visited the house of Mr. Le Thanh Nghia, hamlet 4A, Hung Linh commune, Hung Nguyen, the owner of a forest products processing and trading workshop. Through the inspection, Mr. Le Thanh Nghia had Business License No. 27S000595 issued by the People's Committee of Hung Nguyen district on February 28, 2009 and the workshop had a legal quantity of wood in 2012 of 15,203 m3 of wood from N2-N7.
- In addition, legal inventory of wood (imported wood) from Laos in 2009 and 2011 has been processed for sale to customers, which is 77.5 m3 of N2 + cho chi + vulture. The customer sent it back and has not yet shipped it.
Conclude:
- The content of the Nghe An newspaper No. 9099, dated July 16, 2012, about 100m3 of wood at Mr. Th's workshop, hamlet 9, Hung Linh commune, Hung Nguyen, is completely baseless, because Mr. Th (Thanh) does not have a sawmill, only works as a manual carpenter during his free time, and does not have any forest products to buy as the newspaper stated.
- At Mr. Nghia's workshop, there are 15,203 m3 of timber of various types with legal origins, purchased from confiscated timber from the State and timber imported from Laos in 2012; the timber inventory of various types from 2009 to present is 77.5 m3 neatly arranged, not affecting traffic. There is no phenomenon of timber piling up on the road as reported by Nghe An newspaper.
After studying the response report of the Command Board on urgent issues in BVR and PCCCR of Hung Nguyen district and checking and verifying the information, Nghe An Newspaper would like to exchange as follows:

Firstly, the Steering Committee for urgent issues in forest protection and fire prevention and control in Hung Nguyen district stated that: At Mr. Th's house, hamlet 9, Hung Linh commune, Hung Nguyen, there is no sawmill, only manual carpentry during the off-season, there is no forest products to buy as the article stated. Regarding this content, after verifying and re-checking, Nghe An Newspaper continues to affirm: At Mr. Th's house (Thanh) there is Thanh Chau carpentry establishment, specializing in producing all kinds of fine art wooden products, tables, chairs, beds, civil construction doors, retailing shaped wood, and boxed wood.
Second, regarding the content of the Steering Committee on urgent issues in BVR and PCCCR of Hung Nguyen district, it is stated that: At Mr. Nghia's workshop, there are 15,203m3 of various types of wood products with legal origins, purchased from confiscated wood sold by the State and imported wood from Laos in 2012; the inventory of various types of wood from 2009 to present is 77.5m3 neatly stacked without affecting traffic. There is no phenomenon of wood piled up on the road as Nghe An newspaper reported. Regarding this content, at the time Nghe An newspaper reporters went to find information to write the article, the reality showed that, in addition to the total of nearly 100m3 of wood in the workshop, on the road near Mr. Nghia's sawmill, there was a situation of wood piled up on the road, yard, and alley, affecting traffic.
However, due to negligence during the reporting process, the reporter mistakenly thought that the wood piled up haphazardly on the dike road belonged to Mr. Nghia, but the truth was that it belonged to households in Xuan Lam commune, Nam Dan district (Mr. Nghia's sawmill in Hung Linh commune, Hung Nguyen district is adjacent to households with wood in Xuan Lam commune, Nam Dan district). This was an unintentional oversight of the reporter during the reporting process, Nghe An Newspaper sincerely apologizes.
Nghe An Newspaper thanks the Steering Committee for its feedback on urgent issues in BVR and PCCCR of Hung Nguyen district, and hopes to continue receiving cooperation from your agency in the coming time.
