Life sentence for drug trafficker
(baonghean.vn) -Considering the indictment, the Supreme Court found no basis to reduce the sentence due to the appeal of Tho Po Chua (born in 1978, residing in Na Cua village, Sam To district, Hua Phan, Laos) for the crime of illegal drug trafficking, the Supreme Court's Trial Panel upheld the life sentence.
On the morning of July 24, the Supreme People's Court opened an appeal hearing to try Tho Po Chua for illegal drug trafficking. According to the indictment of the Supreme People's Procuracy, Tho Po Chua's older sister is married in Huoi Moi 1 village (Tri Le commune, Que Phong district, Nghe An province), so she often visits her older sister in Vietnam.
Going back and forth many times, Chua knew that bringing heroin to Que Phong to sell would bring high profits, so on the evening of October 10, 2011, Tho Po Chua brought a cake of heroin from Laos to Vietnam.
Defendant Tho Po Chua
With a weight of 334.14 grams of heroin, Tho Po Chua was sentenced to life in prison by the People's Court of Nghe An province. Believing that this sentence was too severe, Chua filed an appeal to the Supreme People's Court for a reduction in the sentence. However, at the trial, the Supreme People's Court's panel of judges found that there was no basis to consider a reduction in the sentence, and rejected the appeal and upheld the first instance verdict against Tho Po Chua.
