Life sentence for rebellious son who killed his mother for not cooking rice

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of October 28, the Supreme People's Court opened a criminal appeal trial to review the murder case against Hoang Khac Thang (born in 1974, residing in Nghi Van commune, Nghi Loc) following the defendant's appeal for a reduced sentence.

Defendant Hoang Khac Thang was escorted out of court.

According to the indictment, on the evening of December 2, 2013, Thang came home drunk and saw his mother lying on the bed and not yet cooked. Thang asked his mother why she had not cooked yet, and Mrs. Nguyen Thi Dau (Thang's mother) said she was tired. However, Thang still argued with his mother and then rushed into the bed to beat Mrs. Dau. When Mrs. Dau got up and ran, Thang used his foot to push her over and hit her on the head and face. Mrs. Dau called for help, and 3 neighbors showed up, but Thang locked the door and did not let them in, cursing at them.

When Mrs. Dau continued to try to escape Thang, after running a short distance, he was chased and beaten again by his rebellious son. The incident only stopped when the commune police force arrived. Mrs. Dau was taken to the emergency room but died 3 days later due to a brain hemorrhage. Hoang Khac Thang was sentenced to life in prison by the People's Court of Nghe An province for murder.

At the appeal hearing, the panel of judges found that there was no basis to consider reducing the sentence for Hoang Khac Thang. The sentence imposed by the court of first instance was commensurate with the defendant's crime, so the panel of judges of the Supreme People's Court rejected the appeal and upheld the life sentence for Hoang Khac Thang.
