(Baonghean.vn) - According to RIA Novosti, in an interview with The Sun on April 5, former NATO Deputy Secretary General Alessandro Minuto-Rizzo said that the idea of Ukraine joining NATO is inappropriate. Sharing the same view, billionaire Elon Musk said that Kiev's joining is the beginning of a doomsday movie.

"I'm not sure that expanding NATO to include Ukraine is the best answer. There is no need for Ukraine to be a member of NATO. I'm not sure that would support the strength of the alliance," said former NATO Deputy Secretary General Alessandro Minuto-Rizzo.

Mr Rizzo noted that Kiev would be better protected if it were not a member of the bloc. According to him, Ukraine's entry into NATO would have "dangerous" consequences.

“If Ukraine becomes a NATO member, the nature of the war will immediately change – it will be a war between Russia and NATO countries. So it will be something new, different and much more dangerous,” Mr. Rizzo explained.

According to the former Deputy Secretary General of NATO, the West must protect Ukraine to the maximum extent, but at the same time avoid aggression against Russia.

Previously, American billionaire Elon Musk, in a post on social network X on April 4, compared the idea of Ukraine joining NATO to the opening scene of a movie about nuclear apocalypse.

"This is exactly how a nuclear apocalypse movie begins" - billionaire Elon Musk commented on US Secretary of State Antony Blinken's statement about the prospect of Ukraine joining the military alliance.

Mr. Musk also attached his message with an excerpt from the American film "The Next Day", which depicts a nuclear war between the US and the Soviet Union.

Ukraine will become a member of NATO and at the alliance's upcoming summit a bridge will be "built" for the country to join, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister in charge of European and Euro-Atlantic integration Olga Stefanishina said on April 5 that Washington and Berlin oppose inviting Kiev to join NATO.

The New York Times quoted NATO officials as saying that Ukraine will not receive a formal invitation to join the alliance at the July summit in Washington.

"The form of the invitation was proposed by Ukraine itself as a legal guarantee for joining NATO. It is on the agenda. All allies support this decision, except the United States and Germany," Deputy Prime Minister Stefanishina told Rada TV.

Stefanishina believes that the US and Germany oppose inviting Ukraine to join NATO, "because this is no longer just a conversation but a real decision"./.
