Yen Thanh, Dien Chau: Actively collect water hyacinth, drain river water and fields

(Baonghean.vn) - In recent days, heavy rains have continuously poured in, water from upstream along with a large amount of water hyacinth, causing the Vu Giang River from Thong Bridge in Lien Thanh Commune to Sa Tran Bridge in Khanh Thanh Commune, Yen Thanh District to become blocked.

On September 17, Yen Thanh mobilized over 300 people to clear the flow on the Vu Giang River. Lien Thanh Commune alone mobilized 1 excavator, over 50 workers to collect duckweed to clear the flow at 3 locations: Thong Bridge, Con Dua Bridge, Luong Chet Bridge; Mang Bridge and New Bridge of Bau Chen River area. Lien Thanh Commune allocated over 20 million VND from the budget to clear the flow. It is expected that by September 18, Yen Thanh will mobilize forces to clear the weak points.

* Heavy rains lasting for the past 4 days with rainfall of more than 200mm have caused many winter crop areas in Dien Chau to be flooded. To save winter crops, Dien Chau is focusing on draining water and clearing sewers in the fields.

Up to now, Dien Chau farmers have planted more than 5,000 hectares, reaching more than 70% of the winter crop area, including 400 hectares of peanuts, nearly 3,500 hectares of corn and the remaining area is vegetables.

Heavy rains over the past three days have caused 800 hectares of winter crops to be partially flooded, mainly in the 2-rice area developed in the following season. The flooded area is currently continuing to increase due to the continuous heavy rains.

Faced with the continuous heavy rain, agricultural officials of Dien Chau went directly to the fields to direct the repair. First, they removed water hyacinth that was blocking the Nha Le canal and some main drainage canals. More than 100 drainage culverts under the dike were also operating at full capacity to drain the water. Localities mobilized people to dredge more than 100km of drainage canals.

For Dien Chau irrigation enterprise, water is discharged day and night from 4 large sluice gates in Dien Thanh, Dien Ngoc, Dien Hung, Dien Hai, and at the same time, more than 70 workers are mobilized to work regularly to clear 200 km of canals managed by the enterprise./.
