Yen Thanh opens swimming class for children

(Baonghean.vn) - In order to equip students with basic knowledge of swimming skills as well as how to deal with dangerous situations on rivers and reduce the number of children drowning, Yen Thanh district opened swimming classes for students during the summer.

The first swimming class opened on the morning of June 22 with the participation of 30 children from 5 communes in the district. Currently, Yen Thanh has over 79,600 children, accounting for 27% of the district's population. According to the district's Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, from 2011 to June 2015, Yen Thanh district had 158 children who suffered injuries, of which 26/36 died due to drowning. In the first 6 months of this year alone, the whole district had 9 children who died due to drowning.

During 7 days (June 22-28), students aged 12-15 were taught basic swimming techniques and practiced at the swimming pool in Block 2, Yen Thanh Town. To encourage them to learn to swim, Yen Thanh District has a policy of supporting 50,000 VND/student; representatives of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of the province and Yen Thanh District also presented 30 gifts to children in difficult circumstances.
