Yen Thanh expands the area of high-quality three-line hybrid rice Bio 404
(Baonghean) - Since 2008, the Yen Thanh District Agricultural and Fisheries Extension Station has cooperated with Biossed Vietnam One Member Co., Ltd. to conduct trials and trial production of the high-quality 3-line hybrid rice variety Bio 404, which was researched and bred directly in India.
Mr. Dang Ngoc Thu, Deputy Head of Yen Thanh District Agricultural Extension Station, said: Bio 404 rice variety can be used in both production seasons, spring crop with a growth period of 125 - 130 days and summer-autumn crop from 105 - 110 days. In the summer-autumn crop of 2008, we conducted a trial combined with trial production on an area of 5,000m2 of land with two rice crops and one corn crop in Vien Thanh commune.
The control rice variety is Khang Dan 18. With proper compliance with technical processes in production, after a growing period of 110 days (equivalent to Khang Dan 18 rice variety), Bio 404 rice variety gives a real yield of 325 kg/sao (65 quintals/ha), 55 kg/sao (11 quintals/ha) higher than Khang Dan 18 rice variety. Through initial evaluation, it shows that this rice variety has a short growing period, strong tillering, can withstand intensive cultivation, concentrated flowering, good resistance to leaf blight, brown planthoppers, and blast, the rice plant has a strong leaf set, good lodging resistance, effective number of tillers and high percentage of firm grains, long slender rice grains, soft, delicious, rich and lightly fragrant cooked rice.

In the following crops, Yen Thanh district continued to expand the area, first in the 2009 winter-spring crop, planting on an area of 3 hectares in Dai Thanh and Xuan Thanh communes with Khai Phong 1 rice variety as a control. Through two rounds of testing combined with trial production in different regions and soils, it was shown that Bio 404 rice variety has outstanding advantages, wide adaptability, if invested in intensive cultivation well, it can achieve a yield of over 75 quintals/ha for the summer-autumn crop and over 80 quintals/ha for spring crop production. In fact, in Dai Thanh commune, Bio 404 rice variety has given a real yield of 72 quintals/ha and in Xuan Thanh commune it is 75 quintals/ha, higher than Khai Phong 1 rice variety by 4 quintals/ha.
Mr. Nguyen Tien Duc - Head of the District Agriculture Department said: We have asked Bioseed Vietnam Company to work with the district to continue testing and building demonstration models in many different ecological sub-regions, with the aim of affirming the superiority of Bio 404 rice variety and putting it into mass production.
From the initial positive results, Yen Thanh has decided to expand the area of Bio 404 rice. In the last summer-autumn crop, the whole district planted more than 100 hectares of Bio 404 hybrid rice, with an average yield of nearly 64 quintals/ha. This spring crop, the district continues to introduce this rice variety into the planting structure on an area of nearly 300 hectares.
