Yen Thanh: Efforts to fight drought and save rice

(Baonghean.vn) -Faced with the situation of dozens of hectares of spring rice in Van Thanh and Hoa Thanh communes (Yen Thanh) seriously lacking irrigation water (Nghe An Electronic Newspaper reported), the People's Committee of Yen Thanh district is directing functional agencies and localities to actively use all measures to bring water to save the rice.

Although in the past, the District Department of Agriculture has had many solutions to divert water from Ve Vung canal to the communes at the end of the canal, due to the low water volume, the intense heat, and the rice in the flowering period, a more urgent solution is needed.

Faced with the urgent need for irrigation water, Van Thanh Agricultural Cooperative uses pumps to pump water from Dinh River to irrigate rice.

Mr. Nguyen Van Duong - Head of the District Agriculture Department, said: On the afternoon of May 2, the People's Committee of Yen Thanh district held a meeting with 4 communes: Dong Thanh, Tang Thanh, Van Thanh, Hoa Thanh and Yen Thanh Irrigation Enterprise to resolve the local water shortage in the end of the Ve Vung dam canal. The meeting agreed that localities in the area receiving water from the Ve Vung dam must strictly follow the irrigation schedule of the Irrigation Enterprise, in which priority must be given to the end of the canal area that is in a state of water shortage. The Irrigation Enterprise was assigned to install additional water pipes on the road to the Tang Thanh pumping station to increase the water source for the pumping station; Hoa Thanh and Van Thanh communes were assigned to mobilize pumps to pump water from the Dinh River to supply irrigation water to some of the most difficult areas. In the immediate future, localities will allocate funds for pumping water, then the district will have a support plan.

In Van Thanh commune, in recent days, the Agricultural Cooperative has mobilized pumps to pump water from the Dinh River to irrigate the rice. Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hung, Chairman of the Van Thanh Agricultural Cooperative, worried: The weather is as hot as fire, the rice is blooming but there is no timely irrigation water, the people are very worried. In coordination with the district's solutions, in the past 2 days, our Cooperative mobilized 2 pumps, and allocated funds to buy oil, pay labor... to save the rice. Up to now, there are still some rice areas without irrigation water, the Cooperative has directed the operation of the machines day and night to pump water to the fields in the most effective way, at all costs not to let any area lose the crop due to lack of irrigation water.
