According to a representative of the Consular Department (Ministry of Foreign Affairs), Vietnam requested that China seriously investigate the incident in which China blocked, chased, and caused property damage to a number of Vietnamese fishing boats fishing in the Hoang Sa archipelago of Vietnam.

Vietnam's representative also requested China to adequately compensate Vietnamese fishermen and prevent similar incidents from recurring.

Previously, at 2:45 p.m. on January 7, Quang Ngai fishing boat numbered QNg 90055 TS and seven fishermen were chased and had their property destroyed by Chinese ship numbered 1239.

Then, on March 1, Quang Ngai fishing boat numbered QNg 96074 TS with 12 fishermen on board was controlled by Chinese ship Ngu Chinh 02 and some of their assets were confiscated.

After receiving verification information from Vietnamese authorities, on March 17, representatives of the Consular Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam met with representatives of the Chinese Embassy in Hanoi to hand over a diplomatic note of protest to China about these incidents.

The note stated that “the above actions of Chinese functional forces have violated Vietnam’s sovereignty, sovereign rights and jurisdiction in the East Sea, infringed upon the property and legitimate interests of Vietnamese fishermen, and gone against the common perception of the two countries’ senior leaders on the humane treatment of fishermen”./.
