Yonhap: Korean Workers' Party conducts personnel reshuffle

According to Yonhap news agency, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on October 8 that Mr. Choe Ryong-hae, Vice Chairman of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) and considered one of the closest aides of leader Kim Jong-un, has been selected to the party's powerful military committee.

Choe, 67, was elected to the WPK's Central Military Commission at the second plenary session of the party's Central Committee held in Pyongyang on October 7. He is currently one of the five standing members of the Politburo of the party's Central Committee and has been accused of being aKim Jong-un lost favor because of his mistakes in managing the hydroelectric power plant construction project in November 2015.

In this reorganization, which was carried out before the anniversary of the founding of the WPK (October 10), Kim Jong-un's younger sister, Kim Yo-jong, was also elected as an alternate member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the party.

In his report to the party, Mr. Kim Jong-un declared that the national economy of the DPRK has grown this year thanks to its own strength despite increasingly strong sanctions. He stated: “The nuclear weapons of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea are the precious fruits of the arduous struggle of the people in defending the destiny and sovereignty of the country against the nuclear threats of the US imperialists.”
