"I think that if you want to stop the war, you will definitely stop it. I am sure that the previous government did not want to do this. I do not know all the reasons, all the conditions, why they did not want to, why they slowed down the process. At the same time, they repeatedly communicated with the President of Russia (Vladimir Putin)," - Mr. Zelensky stated in a video published on his YouTube channel.
Earlier, at a meeting with the head of the OSCE Miroslav Lajčák, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky stated that a ceasefire in Donbass is the main priority of his activities.
The President of Ukraine also announced that there will soon be progress in the exchange of prisoners in Donbass, but the current problem is that the lists of both sides do not match.
The conflict in southeastern Ukraine has been going on for five years. The issue of its resolution is being discussed by contact groups in Minsk. Three documents have been adopted stipulating steps for de-escalation, but the fighting continues.
