1 million Filipinos flee before world's strongest typhoon hits
On October 31, Philippine authorities evacuated nearly 1 million people in southern Luzon island before Typhoon Goni - the world's strongest category 5 storm - made landfall in the country.
Typhoon Goni, with winds of 215 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 265 215 km/h, is expected to make landfall in the Philippines tomorrow (November 1). Currently moving west from the Pacific Ocean at 25 km/h, Goni is expected to bring heavy rains to the capital Manila and 21 provinces in the Philippines tomorrow morning. Local authorities have banned fishermen from going out to sea. Airlines have canceled dozens of flights.
Typhoon Goni is one of the strongest storms to hit the Philippines since Typhoon Haiyan killed more than 6,300 people in 2013. Typhoon Molave also hit the Philippines last week, killing 22 people.
