Two men entered the country illegally from Laos

At 3:30 p.m. on May 9, the patrol team of the border protection and epidemic prevention post No. 6 of the Nam Can International Border Guard Station was on duty in the area from marker 406 to marker 407 of the Vietnam - Laos border (in Khanh Thanh village, Nam Can commune, Ky Son district, Nghe An province) and discovered that Vi Van Dieu (born in 1986), residing in Binh Chuan commune, Con Cuong district, and Ngan Van Dien (born in 1982), residing in Nga My commune, Tuong Duong district, had illegally entered the country.

Through previous investigation and verification, in January 2019, Vi Van Dieu left for Laos through the Nam Can international border gate with a passport; and Ngan Van Dien left for Laos through the Cau Treo international border gate with a passport in February 2020. Both were workers at the Nam Ngum 4 hydropower plant, in Xai village, Phu Cut district, Xieng Khouang province, Laos.

Due to the complicated developments of the Covid-19 epidemic in Laos, the two subjects wanted to return home but were afraid of being quarantined, so on May 6, Dien and Dieu took a bus to Noong Het district, Xieng Khouang province; at noon on May 9, the two subjects asked a Lao man to show them the way to cut through the forest to return to Vietnam. Then, Dien and Dieu walked along the trail across the border to illegally enter the country and were discovered and arrested by patrol forces.
