2 mountain girls were sold to China for more than 300 million VND

On March 9, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Nguyen Thi Ut Tha (born 1967), residing in Luong Minh commune, Tuong Duong district, prosecuted for the crime of "human trafficking".

According to the indictment, Nguyen Thi Ut Tha had a relationship with a person named Thiet who was living and working in China. Tha agreed with Thiet to take a woman to China for Thiet to sell and receive a commission. On April 16, 2012 and November 18, 2012, Tha took Moong Thi Xoan (born 1988) and Lu Thi Mai (born 1985), both residing in Cham Puong village, Luong Minh commune, Tuong Duong district, to China.
Thiet sold Moong Thi Xuan to a family in Beijing for 56,000 yuan (equivalent to 184.6 million Vietnamese Dong), and sold Lu Thi Mai to a family in Lin Dang province, China for 50,000 yuan (equivalent to 150 million Vietnamese Dong). Nguyen Thi Ut Tha benefited a total of 50 million VND.
After a period of time in a foreign country, Moong Thi Xoan and Lu Thi May escaped back to Vietnam. On August 6, 2017, Xoan and May filed a complaint against Nguyen Thi Ut Tha for her crimes with the police.
At court, Nguyen Thi Ut Tha admitted all her crimes. The panel sentenced the defendant to 6 years in prison and confiscated 50 million VND of illegal profits from her crimes to the state treasury.
