(Baonghean.vn) - After the efforts of relevant parties, by 8:00 a.m. on February 4, all 5/5 pumping stations along Lam River in Thanh Chuong district were back in operation, farmers focused on going to the fields to produce the spring crop on time.

As soon as the pumping stations were operational, farmers gathered in the fields, working with the irrigation unit to pump water, build banks to retain water, and prepare the land to plant rice on time.

Vice Chairman of Thanh Chuong District People's Committee - Mr. Le Dinh Thanh said: Cat Van pumping station will be the first to resume operation, from noon on February 3, followed by Dai Dong, Rang, Dong Van and Ru Nguoc pumping stations.

"Although each station has only been able to operate on one pipe, it has initially solved the difficulty of water source for land preparation and spring crop planting," Mr. Le Dinh Thanh added.

However, according to Mr. Le Dinh Thanh, because the pumping stations are still not able to operate at full capacity, they have only reached about 900m3/h/pipe so water source is still quite difficult.

“For example, at Dong Van pumping station, with the current pumping rate, only about 5-7 hectares of rice can be irrigated per day. Therefore, we hope that the Department of Agriculture and Ban Ve Hydropower will continue to maintain the current water discharge level and other measures so that farmers have enough water to produce the spring crop on time,” Mr. Thanh shared.

Mr. Nguyen Truong Thanh - Head of the Provincial Irrigation Department said: Currently, after more than 1 day of increasing water discharge, the water level at Ban Ve Hydropower Reservoir has dropped by 1m/day.

“The Department of Agriculture highly appreciates the cooperation of Ban Ve Hydropower Company in its efforts to regulate and help the downstream areas have water for production. At the same time, it is recommended that the Company continue to maintain the water discharge level for 5 days to meet the demand, but also balance to reserve water for the rice flowering stage near the end of the crop,” said Mr. Nguyen Truong Thanh.

The Department of Agriculture has also directed to reduce the water flow into the Northern Irrigation System at Do Luong bara to concentrate water for the downstream area of the Southern Irrigation System. Photo: Phu Huong

In addition to Thanh Chuong district, 200 hectares of water from pumping stations along Lam River through Do Luong district have also been restored and put into production. Along with the regulation of the discharge flow of Ban Ve Hydropower Plant, the Department of Agriculture has also directed to reduce the water flow into the Northern Irrigation System at Do Luong bara, concentrating water for the downstream districts of the Southern Irrigation System./.
