At noon on February 22, Tan Ky District General Hospital received 3 patients Nguyen Van Son (53 years old), Nguyen Duy Duc (25 years old) and Nguyen Van Truong (29 years old) from a family living in Hung Cuong hamlet, Phu Son commune in a state of headache, excruciating stomachache, continuous diarrhea, vomiting, limb cramps, and pale skin.
The doctor directly treating the patient quickly consulted the patient's family to find a treatment direction and concluded: The patients were poisoned by drinking wine soaked with the roots of the plant Thuong luc.
According to the patient's family: A few months ago, an acquaintance came to visit and brought a ginseng-shaped root weighing about 1.5 kg, saying that a relative brought it from Korea and gave it to the family to soak in wine to drink.

On the evening of February 21, Mr. Son's family held a party to invite a few friends and their families. After each person drank 1-2 cups, 6 people all fell into the same condition: headache, stomachache, vomiting, continuous diarrhea, limb cramps... Three people with more serious conditions were transferred to the District General Hospital for emergency care, while three others were treated directly at the Phu Son Commune Health Station. Currently, the health of the three patients at the hospital has begun to stabilize and they will be discharged in the coming days.
According to Dr. Pham Van Nguyen - Head of the Department of Surgery at Tan Ky General Hospital, the roots of the plant contain a bitter poison called phytolactoxin, a lot of potassium nitrate salt, oxymyristinic acid, which is used by people to treat diseases by soaking, cooking and applying it to the skin. Because it resembles real ginseng, many people mistakenly believe it and have been poisoned.
Many documents recording the tubers of the plant Thuong luc have notes to avoid confusion between ginseng and poisonous plants. The toxicity of this plant can cause miscarriage, healthy people are also susceptible to poisoning, especially seriously affecting kidney function./.
