According to the report of the National Traffic Safety Committee, during the 3-day Hung King Commemoration Day holiday (April 16-18, 2016), there were 83 traffic accidents nationwide, killing 63 people and injuring 56 people. Of these, 81 accidents occurred on roads, killing 62 people and injuring 55 people. There was 1 accident on inland waterways, killing 1 person. There was 1 accident on railways, injuring 1 person.

Today alone (April 18), there were 33 traffic accidents nationwide, killing 23 people and injuring 24.

Also during the 3-day Hung King Commemoration Day holiday, a particularly serious traffic accident occurred: At 0:39 on April 17, 2016, at the curve of Dinh Le Street, Phu Loc 4, Lang Son City, Lang Son Province, a Tam Gia taxi with license plate 12A-034.93 (5-seat type) carrying 4 people plunged into the lake and flipped over. The consequence was that 4 people in the car died. According to initial assessment, the cause was that the car entered the curve, the driver did not control the speed causing the accident.

Regarding the handling of violations of the Road Traffic Law, the report of the National Traffic Safety Committee shows that the national road traffic police force has handled 2,962 cases of traffic safety violations, paid the State Treasury 582.8 million VND, and temporarily detained 23 cars and 324 motorbikes. Regarding inland waterways, 463 cases of violations were handled, paid the State Treasury 146.8 million VND.
