Deputy Minister of Education and Training Bui Van Ga delivered a speech assigning tasks at the conference.

Attending the conference, on the side of the Ministry of National Defense, there were Major General Le Duc Manh - Deputy Director of the Department of Personnel - General Department of Politics; Major General Chu Minh Hong - Deputy Director of the Department of Schools - General Staff.

Reporting at the conference, Major General Nguyen Thien Minh - Director of the Department of National Defense Education (Ministry of Education and Training) - said: In 2016, the Ministry of Education and Training was assigned by the Prime Minister to select 700 candidates for reserve officer training from male university graduates.

According to the needs of the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Education and Training has assigned a quota of 630 students to 24 university recruitment units and 9 training units. The training results have achieved 607 quotas, reaching over 96%.

This year, according to the Ministry of National Defense's demand announcement for this work, the target remains unchanged from last year at 630 out of 700 targets assigned by the Government; the Ministry of Education and Training has assigned 23 universities to organize the selection of male students graduating in 2017 who are qualified to go for training.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister Bui Van Ga assessed that the recruitment and training of reserve officers in 2016 had made certain progress, with 17/26 schools fulfilling their assigned targets. This was the result of the attention from the school Boards of Directors to this work.

The Deputy Minister emphasized: In the current situation, when technology is changing rapidly, the military also needs to keep up with changes in technology and military techniques. The Ministry of National Defense has set out requirements for training reserve officers from universities to promptly supplement the source of high-quality officers serving national defense work.

This is a noble task, therefore, schools need to do their best to fulfill assigned targets in order to contribute to the task of building and defending the socialist fatherland.

This year, the assigned school units must absolutely comply with the quota, overcome existing problems and difficulties, and not let any students disobey orders like a few in recent years.

The Deputy Minister suggested that the conference focus on discussing and replicating models of schools that do well in this work, and at the same time point out the reasons why some schools have not fulfilled their tasks in this work in order to overcome them. This year, schools assigned to recruit students and schools assigned to train students must do so seriously. The Ministry of Education and Training and the Ministry of National Defense need to coordinate to develop and have forms of commendation for units that have done well in the review of enrollment work in the past 5 years.
