80% of passenger transport businesses in Nghe An reduce fares

(Baonghean.vn) - According to information from the Transport Management Department - Nghe An Department of Transport, as of March 8, nearly 80% of passenger transport businesses have announced fare reductions, with reductions ranging from 3-27%.

Hue Transport Cooperative has reduced fares twice.

Mr. Nguyen Viet Hung - Head of Transport Management Department, said: In the context of sharp decline in gasoline prices in recent times, the department has advised the leaders of the Department of Transport to issue a reduction in fares for passenger transport businesses.

Accordingly, on February 24, the Department issued Official Dispatch No. 389.SGTVT-VT, regarding the continued development and declaration of transportation fares in accordance with the reduction in fuel prices. Specifically, units must develop and declare reduced fares in accordance with the reduction in fuel prices (the reduction is not less than 3% compared to the previous declaration) and send them to the competent authority as prescribed before February 29.

With the spirit of serious and drastic implementation, right after issuing the document to the units, the Department invited the delegations to inform and urge; along with that, it requested the Automobile Transport Association to organize a meeting to disseminate information to its members. Next, the Department also issued a decision to establish an inspection team to handle the matter in accordance with regulations - Mr. Hung added.

According to statistics: as of March 8, 35/44 passenger transport businesses in the province sent notices of fare reduction to the Department of Transport. The announced reductions range from 3-27%. The Western Nghe An Transport Cooperative has the highest reduction rate for the Vinh - Hanoi route, reducing fares by up to 27%. The units that have not reduced fares mainly exist in taxi passenger transport businesses.

The reduction is from 3-8%, with 2 units reducing fares twice during this time. They are: Hue Automobile Transport Cooperative (Vinh Hue route: from 200,000 VND reduced to 180,000 VND then 140,000 VND/trip) and Truong Thinh Transport Company Limited (Vinh - Quy Nhon route) reduced from 500,000 VND to 410 and now 390,000 VND.

For units that are slow to reduce fares (mainly taxi units), the Transport Management Department will consult documents for the Department of Transport leaders to criticize, request the Department Inspectorate to regularly inspect and handle according to regulations.
