The Vietnamese representative's national costume was inspired by the image of Hai Ba Trung and will be performed by her in a completely new competition at Miss Earth.
In the new photo series, Vietnam's representative - runner-up Ha Thu - introduces the outfit she will bring to the international beauty arena. The outfit is not too elaborately designed but has a strong traditional character, building the image of an ancient Vietnamese woman full of charisma. The shirt is a blend of modern materials and hand-stitching techniques to create new features, but still fully expresses the majestic spirit of a female general.

The Miss Earth 2017 contest, themed Heroines Fighting Climate Change, required contestants to prepare an outfit inspired by female warriors from their country. Each contestant’s national costume must highlight the image of a strong, individual woman, especially true to the theme: Being a pioneer, leading the way in calling for climate change prevention and environmental protection. |

The skirt uses brocade - a traditional Vietnamese material - combined with ethnic patterns to create a whole that fully encompasses Vietnam. The outfit is embellished with 100% handmade accessories. The highlight is the headdress made of zinc and coated with copper paint. |

Designer Nguyen Minh Cong - who designed the outfit for Ha Thu - shared: “The outfit does not carry any specific image. It is a convergence of traditional beauty and the spirit of ancient women. It can help to remind us of the image of a majestic Lady Trieu, the Trung sisters riding elephants to fight the enemy or a tenacious Bui Thi Xuan…” |

“Thu listened to the inspiration and meaning of the costume, understood it better, Thu felt proud to wear it. Ha Thu herself always admired the image of female warriors and heroes of Vietnam in the past and hoped that through this costume, she could somehow convey the heroic spirit to the younger generation, including Thu. Thu hopes that this costume will receive the love and support of both Vietnamese and international audiences,” the runner-up said. |
