Egypt accuses Reuters of publishing false information.
The Egyptian Interior Ministry has accused the British news agency Reuters of publishing false information from anonymous sources regarding the controversial death of Italian graduate student Giulio Regeni.
Regarding the incident, Reuters quoted local security sources as saying that the Italian graduate student was arrested by Egyptian police and taken to the headquarters of the internal security agency before disappearing.

A spokesperson for the Egyptian Interior Ministry stated that the Reuters report was unfounded. Egyptian officials have consistently denied any involvement in Regeni's death.
Relations between Italy and Egypt have recently become strained after Italy increased pressure on the Cairo government to clarify the cause of Giulio Regeni's death, while asserting that the Egyptian investigation results did not satisfy the Italian government and people.
In early April, the Italian government recalled its ambassador to Egypt to protest against the Cairo government over a series of questionable aspects in the investigation into Regeni's death.
Regeni was a PhD student studying trade unions at Cambridge University, who had traveled to Cairo to research labor issues in Egypt. Regeni disappeared on January 25th, and his body was found on February 3rd on the outskirts of Cairo, showing signs of having been brutally tortured to death.
The Italian authorities have requested close cooperation from Egypt in finding the perpetrators, and have also demanded that Egypt provide all relevant information regarding this case.
The U.S. also demanded that Egypt ensure the investigation into Regeni's murder is conducted comprehensively and transparently, and cooperate with Italian authorities in investigating the cause of the incident.
