Russian newspaper Kommersant in an article published on Friday (December 8) predicted that the head of Russian President Vladimir Putin's election campaign could be Chief of Staff Anton Vaino, or First Deputy Chief Sergei Kiriyenko.

The presidential office explained that it has not yet established a headquarters, so it has not yet appointed a campaign manager. Kommersant reported that two unnamed sources close to the Kremlin said that there were only two people who could take the position - either head Anton Vaino or Sergei Kiriyenko.

Thus, according to one of the two sources, who will be in charge of the headquarters is still being discussed in several directions, for example it could be an economist, or an expert in the field of civil area development.

Earlier, in an interview with RIA Novosti, Mr. Kirienko said he still did not know who would lead the current President's election campaign. Former Kremlin chief of staff, special presidential envoy for environmental protection, ecology and transport Sergei Ivanov also said he did not know who would lead Mr. Putin's election campaign, but that person "definitely will not be him".

The press secretary of the head of state, Dmitry Peskov, noted that since the main election headquarters has not yet been established, it has not yet been decided who will head the campaign.

On Wednesday (December 6), during a meeting with workers at the GAZ automobile factory in Nizhny Novgorod city, Vladimir Putin announced his decision to run for president in 2018.

In March next year, the Russian presidential election will be officially held, the election campaign will begin in December 2017. Mr. Putin's election announcement was made in the context of Russia being under increasing pressure from the outside.
