The first debate between Democratic candidate, US Vice President Kamala Harris and her Republican opponent, former President Donald Trump, will take place on September 10 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The highly anticipated event will be hosted by ABC News.

According to debate rules, questions for candidates will only be posed by the moderator and candidates will have 2 minutes to respond, and their microphones will be muted when it is the other candidate's turn to speak.

Candidates will be given a pen, a pad of paper and a bottle of water, but will be prohibited from taking pre-written notes. Candidates will not be allowed to interact with their campaign staff, even during commercial breaks.

The Harris-Trump debates are in danger of not happening due to a dispute over microphone use. Harris’s team has asked ABC News not to mute the microphone during the event, while Trump’s team has insisted that the rules remain the same as they were during the June debates with Biden.

The US presidential election will be held on November 5. The Democratic Party was once expected to be represented by incumbent President Joe Biden, but after a June debate with Republican candidate Donald Trump, Biden decided to withdraw from the race on July 21 and endorsed Ms. Harris for the country's highest office. She formally accepted the nomination at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Illinois.
